New Laws Taking Effect This Year
- California Minimum Wage is now $7.50/hr.
- Dogs cannot be hitched to a stationary object for more than three hours at a time.
- It is now a misdemeanor to leave an unattended animal inside a car without food and water.
- It is now illegal to ride in the trunk of a car. Apparently this is because teens were evading another law that had made illegal for a teen to drive a car if there was another teen in the car, unless the driver had held the license for over a year.
- It is illegal to take more than 25 copies of a free newspaper.
- College student media can no longer be censored.
- Also now in effect is a law mandating fire-safe cigarettes.
